In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

SMSC and British Values
At Meadow View Farm School, we endeavour to ensure that our pupils are stimulated and enthusiastic learners, engaging them through a variety of enriching experiences to ignite their passion to develop a respectful view regarding differences and an appreciation for others within their wider community; supporting their lifelong development. 

Through the teaching of Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development including British Values; pupils are encouraged to accept responsibility for their behaviour, understand how they can contribute positively to the locality of the school and society more widely, begin to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of identifying and combatting discrimination, celebrate cultural traditions, acquire a broad general knowledge of, and respect for, public institutions and services in England; ultimately developing their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence.

Opportunities to support BV & SMSC development are embedded within the curriculum and explicitly planned for. Staff are also encouraged to take advantage of opportunities that may arise as natural, incidental outcomes that may be identified in the locality, media or through organic learning pathways.

The above outcomes for pupils are achieved through a range of opportunities including:
•    Whole school charity events – inspired and led by the pupils
•    Whole school cultural celebrations 
•    Open days for parents, celebrating pupils' progress and achievement 
•    ‘MVFS Against Hate Week’ – celebrating differences, positivity and kindness throughout the school community and the wider society
•    Public service visits 
•    Off site trips within the community, including charities such as Age UK 
•    Class performances within whole school assemblies 

"The quality of MVFS’s leadership and the commitment of all the staff was also again very evident on the day of our visit with a lovely atmosphere in all the classrooms we visited and, in the courtyard, where students and staff were preparing a ‘VE day’ event and were in very good spirits."
