Protective Behaviours

Protective Behaviours at Meadow View Farm School

At MVFS, Protective Behaviours (PBs) is a fundamental part of our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum. Our aim is to empower children with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to keep themselves safe, both physically and emotionally, while also fostering positive relationships and resilience.

Our Approach

Our Protective Behaviours curriculum is centred around two key principles:

  1. "We all have the right to feel safe all the time."
  2. "We can talk with someone about anything, even if it feels awful or small."

We teach children to understand their own emotions, personal boundaries, and safety strategies through a carefully sequenced, developmentally appropriate approach. This helps them build confidence, resilience, and the ability to navigate challenges in their lives.

Implementation in Daily Life

At Meadow View Farm School, Protective Behaviours is embedded into daily life through a consistent, whole-school approach that prioritises emotional safety, empowerment, and the development of personal resilience. We actively use the language of safety across all aspects of the school day—during lessons, outdoor learning, and informal interactions—ensuring that children understand their right to feel safe at all times. This shared language acts as the glue that holds everything together, creating a secure and predictable environment where children can build trust, recognise early warning signs, and confidently identify trusted adults.

The Impact

Through our Protective Behaviours curriculum, children at MVFS:

  • Gain confidence and independence in keeping themselves safe.
  • Understand and respect personal boundaries.
  • Develop resilience and problem-solving skills.
  • Build healthy relationships.
  • Recognise unsafe situations.
