Keeping Yourself Safe
Protective Behaviours
At Meadow View Farm School, we want you to feel safe, happy, and confident every day. That’s why we use Protective Behaviours to help you understand your rights, feelings, and ways to keep yourself safe.
Remember these two important rules:
- We all have the right to feel safe all the time.
- We can talk with someone about anything, even if it feels awful or small.
How Can Protective Behaviours Help You?
- Your Network of Safety – You will create a list of trusted adults who you can talk to when you feel worried, upset, or unsure about something. These people will listen, believe you, and help you.
- Early Warning Signs – You will learn how your body and feelings can tell you when something doesn’t feel right. If you ever feel nervous, scared, or uncomfortable, it’s important to tell someone.
- Safe and Unsafe Secrets – You will learn the difference between secrets that make you feel happy (like a surprise birthday party!) and secrets that make you feel worried or uncomfortable. If a secret makes you feel bad, you should always tell someone in your safety network.
- My Body, My Rules – You have the right to say "No" to anything that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Your body belongs to you, and it’s important to respect other people’s boundaries too.
- Speaking Up – If something is worrying you, making you feel sad, or if you don’t feel safe, you can always talk to a trusted adult at school or at home. You are never alone, and people are here to help you.
Who Can Help You?
If you ever feel unsafe or need to talk, you can go to someone on your network of safety:
- Your teacher or teaching assistant
- A trusted adult at home
- A member of staff you feel comfortable with
- A friend who can help you find an adult
- Childline (Call 0800 1111) if you need to talk to someone outside of school
At MVFS, we will always listen, always believe you, and always help you. You are important, and you have the right to feel safe every day!

Staying Safe with the NSPCC
At Meadow View Farm School, your safety and happiness are important. We work with the NSPCC to help you learn how to stay safe and speak up if something is worrying you.
With the NSPCC, you will learn:
- Who you can talk to if you feel worried or unsafe.
- How to tell if a situation is safe or unsafe, in person or online.
- What your body belongs to you, and you have the right to say no.
- Ways to manage big feelings and friendships.
We also take part in special NSPCC events like Speak Out, Stay Safe and Safer Internet Day, to help you learn more about staying safe.
If you ever feel worried or unsafe, talk to a trusted adult at school or home.
You can also call Childline on 0800 1111 or visit www.childline.org.uk to chat online.
You are never alone—there is always someone who will listen and help.
